Description[]

After the opening, Kara and Todd arrive at the house. Todd leaves first, leaving Kara to follow. You can look at some construction work, but if you take too long Todd will impatiently call out to Kara.

Once inside, Todd very briefly gives Kara's instructions; cooking, cleaning and taking care of Alice. Alice will be missing at the beginning, but when Todd calls her she appears silently. Todd will tell Kara to start cleaning downstairs and then head up.

Kara has multiple things to do; cleaning the garbage into bags and taking them out, activating the vacuum cleaner, going outside to get some clothes to wash, washing the dishes. Kara may find a magazine on the dining room table where she can read Android Power! and Connecting the Dots.

Kara will always take out the trash as it's mandatory, she may listen to Todd on the phone before going outside, once out she can watch a bus arrive and depart, then back inside Todd will accidentally knock down some books when searching for drugs, Kara can tidy the shelf, and may also turn on the vacuum which Alice will play with.

Kara can wash the dishes after learning the dish washer is broken, to which she'll order a new part for the machine, when cleaning Alice may notice her which will increase Kara's relationship with her, after washing them, Todd will demand a beer to which Kara complies.

If you rewash clothes, Kara may look over a fence, when back inside you will find a small stash of Red Ice. Todd will appear and warn you of making him nervous, after which he will leave and you can continue cleaning. Alice will have seen the situation.

You can talk to Alice outside, making it possible to get Kara's and her relationship to "Trusted" in this very chapter.

In order to get the chapter to 100%, you must block the front of the TV while Todd is watching.

When the garbage has been taken out, you can move on to the second floor.

Before going Kara can interact with Alice whilst she's holding a teddy which will increase Kara's relationship with her.

On the second floor there are various different rooms to clean. She can start off with Todd's room, where she may find a magazine and read Android QB and Putting a Price. She may also watch the tv, she'll have to make the bed, when doing so Alice can be seen walking to her room, Kara will then move a guitar, tidy CD's, clean the drawers and open a window. Additionally she can tidy the pills and find a gun which can be used for later. Before leaving she'll have to tidy a stand by the window where she finds an ad for a child android hinting at the twist we find out later on.

After cleaning one room, Todd will exit the restroom and Kara can clean the toilet. She may also clean the bathroom, where she can tidy the bath, tidy the clothes and mop the floor.

She will then enter Alice's room, if she hadn't cleaned it yet Kara will reassure her that she won't take long, if she already did it Kara will say nothing, Kara will then tidy the bed, she may also look at a shelf and look at the Alice In Wonderland book which will increase her relationship with Alice, she may also open a window which is beneficial for later.

Kara will then talk to Alice though she'll always be silent.

After talking to her enough times, Alice will leave the room.

  • If Kara and Alice have a low relationship, Alice will leave after coldly staring back.
  • If Kara and Alice have a neutral/high relationship Alice will give Kara a key before leaving, to which Kara may use it to discover Todd's past via a box.

After heading back down she'll observe Todd raging at Alice then apologizing.

Attention to Detail[]

Things you can do with little to no story impact:

  • Observing the construction outside both on the ground and at the incomplete overpass;
  • Watching the bus come and go;
  • The bills that reveal how Todd can afford this house & all his purchases;
  • Looking at the taxi poster on the wall in the living room;
  • Turning on the vacuum, Alice will play with it and Todd will shout at her;
  • Observing Alice in the chair and under the table;
  • Looking over the fence;
  • When Kara takes out the trash, Todd throws the books on the floor next to the TV. Kara can tidy the books;
  • Talking to Alice in the yard;
  • Watching the television in Todd's room;
  • Looking at the mirror in the bathroom;
  • Shaking the box;
  • Noting Alice likes to read from her shelf of hard-copy books;
  • Looking at Alice's drawings;
  • Multiple opportunities to observe Alice as you work on her room.

Visual Factors that enhance the story without player input:

  • The dashboard in Todd’s car is broken;
  • The crane actually digs;
  • The stairs are covered in toys;
  • There is a warehouse (normally unseen);
  • The whole neighborhood has collision;
  • Kara will duck under the tree when moving past it;
  • After cleaning the floor in the bathroom, you can see the reflection of the room;
  • After looking at Alice’s book, Kara will purposely make sure not to step on it.

Notes[]

  • The layout and appearance of Todd's house and neighborhood somewhat resemble the neighborhood and apartment of Ethan Mars from Heavy Rain, a previous Quantic Dream game.
  • Kara discovers that Todd hides Red Ice in a type of laundry detergent called "Blue Splash".
  • Todd yells at Kara for being too slow on her way in from the car in the majority of circumstances. Ironically, one of the only time he won't is if she walks on his front lawn (which is generally considered bad for the grass, and therefore rude).
  • Todd's phone call in this chapter suggests that he acquires things for people and meets them at cryptic locations. The details of this phone call, as well as the fact that Todd is "unemployed," suggest that he runs an illicit business, likely as a drug dealer.
  • Kara can talk about the toy, whilst taking out the trash, bringing Todd’s beer, taking in the laundry or finishing all tasks.
  • Kara can turn on the vacuum without touching it.
  • After taking out the trash, Kara can tidy the shelf.
  • Normally if Kara cleans the dishes and hasn’t risen up her relationship with Alice yet, when the relationship status rises up, no additional status tag appears, but sometimes the “Distant” tag will appear.
  • If you brought Todd the beer before taking out the trash, the beer will also be taken to the trash can.
  • Todd will drink his beer and put it back on the table if given.
  • Looking at the TV for too long will result in Todd telling Kara to leave.
  • If you stand in front of the TV for too long, Todd will yell at Kara and tell her to get out of the way.
  • It is possible to talk to Alice in the garden.
  • Kara can open a window in Todd’s room.
  • This is the only chapter with two magazines to interact with.
  • Normally when entering Alice’s room, Kara will ask for a few minutes to clean, but if she already cleaned the room, Kara will not say anything to Alice.
  • Alice has the Alice in Wonderland book, in which Kara can observe.
  • Normally looking at Alice’s book will lead to brief conversation of Kara talking to Alice, which will increase the relationship status, but if you look at the book and Alice isn’t around, Kara will just briefly look at the book and stay silent, and the relationship status with Alice will not increase since Alice isn’t there.
  • If Kara’s relationship status with Alice is at Distant, Alice will not give Kara the key.
  • If you unlock the box you can find a clover.
  • Alice’s box has a picture showing Todd, his wife and his real daughter, already hinting that Alice isn’t actually his daughter.

Unused Content[]

  • Early on Alice was intended to be a mute character, Kara would communicate with her via sign language, this was used to teach basic American sign language, ultimately this was later on scrapped and in the final game Alice has an actual voice.
