Relationship Changes[]

Hank[]

  • Connor died in "On the Run" Relationship down

  • Picking "cholesterol" when talking to Hank at the table Relationship up
  • Picking "company" when talking to Hank at the table Relationship up
  • Picking "lie" when Hank asks if Connor has "done his homework" Relationship down

  • Saving him instead of pursuing Rupert Relationship largeup
  • Continuing to chase Rupert instead of saving him Relationship largedown
  • Do nothing during the choice to save Hank or chase Rupert Relationship largedown x2

Relationship decrease with Hank is much bigger doing nothing than choosing to chase Rupert (enough to move from Friend to Tense/Hostile)

Software Instability[]

  • Connor falls to his death Relationship down
  • Connor gets chopped by a plow Relationship down
  • Connor dies by falling off the ladder Relationship down x2
  • Saving Hank Relationship largeup
  • Continue chasing Rupert Relationship largedown
  • Do nothing during the choice to save Hank or chase Rupert Relationship largedown x2

Attention to Detail[]

Things you can do with little to no story impact:

  • Interesting things Connor can investigate throughout the chapter, incidental to any goal.
    • A pile of feathers in the hall
    • Rupert's fake ID
    • Rupert's jacket (he put his initials in it)
    • A closet with half a dozen pigeons stuck inside
    • A pack of birdseed
    • Opening his empty (& likely unpowered) refrigerator

Notes[]

  • This chapter bears a few similarities to the chapter "Nathaniel" from another Quantic Dream game Heavy Rain.
    • Both Nathaniel Williams and Rupert live alone in an apartment that is either old or condemned.
    • Both Rupert and Nathaniel have symbols of their spiritual beliefs written on the walls (rA9 for Rupert and Jesus Christ for Nathaniel).
    • Both Connor and Norman Jayden first knock on the door before their partners decide to kick the door down.
  • The dialogue option “HIGHWAY” is only available if Connor obeyed Hank in On the Run
  • If Connor failed to save Emma in The Hostage when Hank asks if he’s ever dealt with deviants before, Connor will have option to tell the truth or lie.
  • Choosing “SINCERE” or “PSYCHOLOGICAL” when Hank ask Connor what his conclusion is will both have a small increase however choosing “SINCERE” is known to raise the relationship status higher.
  • Hank will talk or stay silent when opening the window.
  • If you wait a while Hank will notice the RT jacket.
  • If Connor didn’t examine the jacket yet, Hank will take his place in reading the initials.
  • The rap song playing in background resembles a word "trap" in it - possibly referencing how both Connor & Hank are trapped in their situation, or hinting at the whole uncertainty of Androids | Deviants situation overall.
  • Hank can also open the bird closet.
  • Hank and Connor can talk about “ornithophobia”, meaning Hank has an irrational fear of birds.
  • While looking around Hank can talk about how not many people read regular books anymore.
  • Similarly Hank can be shocked about Rupert feeding the pigeons.
  • There is a small dialogue where Hank can tell you he found something in the sink if Connor hasn’t already examined it.
  • If Hank is out of the room when finding the diary, Hank doesn't say anything but if he is present he'll ask if you found something.
  • If you wait long enough Hank will want to leave, giving the option to “LEAVE” or “STAY”, if you choose "STAY" Hank will be annoyed but will agree to give Connor two minutes. In addition he’ll jokingly tell Connor to hurry before he dies of an asthma attack.
  • If Connor waits before opening the door when Rupert runs, Connor will open the door and find that Rupert is gone.
  • If Connor dies, Hank will say his famous “ARGH, JESUS CHRIST!” quote.
  • If you lose sight of Rupert, Hank will console Connor and assure him that everyone will fail occasionally.
  • If Connor fails to jump over the cart, a worker will ask him if he’s okay.
  • If you fail to jump on the edge, Connor will grab on the edge and will either fall or pull himself up.
  • If Connor fails to pull himself up, he will fall to his death. Hank will watch Connor die, and the camera will show Connor collapsing into a pile.
  • If you run into the door, Connor will put his hand on the window and go right.
  • There is another route to follow Rupert which is slower but higher.
  • If you go onto the balcony, Connor can bump into people.
  • Failing to dodge the window will cause Connor to fall into a corn garden and try to avoid a plow, and then hop back on the train.
  • If Connor doesn’t get up, the plow will chop him up, Hank will watch the events and the camera will show the sprinklers turning on.
  • Failing the QTE when jumping on the train will cause Connor to tumble
  • Connor can lose track of Rupert in various different locations.
  • Failing to jump on the ladder will result in Connor having to pull himself up on to it.
  • Falling off the ladder will double the software instability decrease.
  • It is possible to walk on the roof.
  • If Connor falls off the ladder, Hank will watch the events and then camera will show a view of the train passing by.
  • Connor can lose sight of Rupert in the hallway, the rooftop, the lower wheat field, the higher wheat field, the storage depot, the hydroponics, the flower garden, the terrac, the vegetables garden (if Connor fell in), the sprinklers, the construction area, the greenhouse rooftop, the greenhouse interior, and the corn field. If each scene whilst having the same script has different animations at the end.
  • Losing track of Rupert in the hallway plays almost the same as losing him in the rooftop but with an added scene of Connor rushing and opening the door.
  • If you lose track of Rupert in the hydroponics, some androids in the background remain static, a similar scenario happens if Connor loses Rupert in the sprinklers. Both of which are pretty humorous.
  • There is a third balanced path on the higher wheat field area.
  • Choosing the slower or dangerous paths will still lead to Rupert pushing Hank.
  • Pursuing Rupert can decrease your relationship status with Hank from “Friend” to “Hostile/Tense”. It can also go down to “Neutral/Warm”.

Unused Content[]

  • The food truck segment and the segment where Connor and Hank enter the apartment building were originally separate chapters.
  • Early concept art depicts a man in a coat who resembles Perkins, suggesting that the character was meant to appear more frequently.
  • Chicken Feed was originally named "The Chicken Truck Guy" as shown in concept art.
  • Connor could note that Hank doesn't like seeing Connor destroyed and would make an objective to avoid that as much as possible.
  • A notable difference in the dialogue between the scrapped version and released version is that Hank was surprisingly much nicer to Connor, and more relaxed. Making Hank more versatile as a character.
    • In addition, his portrayal was more serious and grounded as opposed to being a comic relief.
  • Pedro would have asked who the android accompanying Hank was to which Hank would politely say that it doesn't matter.
  • The betting conversation would how the last tip cost Hank his entire salary, but Pedro would eventually convince him to take the bet.
  • When getting the meal, Hank would jokingly remark that he could eat a horse.
  • The objective of reconciling with Hank initially said to "Break the ice" with Hank better.
  • If Connor discussed the cholesterol levels, Hank would show appreciation for his concern and thank him but politely tell him that he doesn't like being told what to do.
  • Connor could ask Hank about getting meals without paying, Hank would explain that he and Gary are good friends and that he often does him favors, to which Connor would respond joking that it's corruption.
  • If Connor asked about the bet, he would ask about Pedro offering an illegal bet and if Hank placed said bet, to which Hank would confirm both questions.
  • The discussion about the deviant situation was originally more serious in tone, with Hank asking questions and responding to answers more professionally and Connor explaining various cases he heard about.
  • When Hank asked if Connor ever dealt with deviants before, he would originally specify that he means before last night.
  • If Connor died during "The Hostage", Connor would automatically answer that he has had no other cases before Carlos' Android due to the fact that he didn't remember.
  • Daniel and Rupert were originally referred to as "him" instead of "it".
    • This is because at the time all androids were referred to by gender definitions even by humans.
  • Unused dialogue mentions Carlos' Android currently being interrogated, implying that either in a very early draft, "The Interrogation" was right after the food truck scene but was later on set to occur right after "Broken" or that if the deviant wasn't spoken to at the cell, it would be mentioned in conversation that he is still being interviewed.
  • The case regarding Rupert originally had more context. It was stated that he had killed a man at a pet shop who was the owner of said pet shop in self defense due to an altercation that resulted from Rupert trying to purchase birdseeds and owner getting angry for unknown reasons.
    • Additionally, there would have been a scene in which Connor and Hank investigated the pet shop for clues, they would find the victim's body and search his jacket, to which they would find his ID card and thus learn his address, which was an apartment located at The Urban Farms, the duo would conclude that the suspect is hiding there and thus decide to try finding him there.
  • The interior was originally much bigger and consisted of more rooms.
  • Dialogue has Hank saying "Be my guest", which is likely him letting Connor leave the elevator first.
  • Concept art depicts the word "Jericho" on one of the walls. It is likely that it was initially an optional or mandatory way of learning the organization's name.
  • Connor would originally find blue blood on the door, as mentioned by dialogue texts in the game's files.
  • Early concept art depicts a giant symbol.
    • Additionally the concept art depicts a giant marking of the word "RA9", likely originally where Connor could find it instead of the bathroom.
  • Unused dialogue has Hank jokingly saying "Ladies first.", when Connor is standing in front of the door.
  • Scrapped dialogue in the files suggest that instead of Hank kicking the door and entering with Connor following him, Connor would try to enter but find the door locked, would mention finding thirium residue on the door to which Hank would ask if he's sure the deviant is here, Connor would add that he's certain due to the fact that his serial number is around, Hank would jokingly express sorrow that they can't approach the situation peacefully, Connor would then presumably bust the door open by breaking the lock much to Hank's surprise, Hank would exasperatedly advise Connor to wait for a search warrant only for the door to open to which Connor would smugly reply that it's no longer necessary with the door now open.
  • Concept art depicts an unused room which looks to a library room consisting of empty bookshelves.
  • Some early concept art depicts what looks to be a garage at the left of the kitchen, possibly explorable.
  • The kitchen was significantly larger in size as shown concept art.
  • Older concept art implies that the pigeons were originally ravens.
  • If Hank examined the jacket, he would read aloud "Rupert Travis" and humorously ask if writing initials on a jacket is a thing that kindergarteners do, to which Connor would add that it deviants seemingly have this habit because they feel it's important.
  • Connor could find Rupert's diode to which he would explain was ripped out.
    • He could also find his GPS and mention that Rupert neutralized it.
  • Concept art suggests that the hallway had no projectiles to halt Connor during his pursuit.
  • Rupert originally wore a gardening outfit instead of casual clothes.
  • Some early concept art depicts a maintenance android and a gardening android. There is not much information about them.
  • The pursuit was originally longer than in the final game as shown in concept art.
    • Various pieces of concept art depicts unused areas during the pursuit such as a roof with a water tank, a rooftop covered in grass and consisting of a vent system, a garden area with some scaffolding, trucks and a few androids, a set of glass roofs above a garden behind a railway track, a storage center, a vegetation crop house, a botanical garden harvesting farm, and a rooftop with a billboard and a radio tower.
  • It appears as though originally, Connor didn't have any deaths in this chapter.
  • If Connor lost track of Rupert, Hank would suggest calling all patrols. Connor would apologize for the mishap to which Hank would reassure Connor that mistakes happen, Connor would be annoyed at his own failure. Hank would remark that he's becoming more human by expressing regret and frustration, to which Connor would complain that emotions blur judgment which he doesn't like and would sarcastically add that if stress and impulse are included in humanity then he'd rather have no part in it.
  • Hank originally didn't slap Connor if left behind, and was more disgruntled than angry.
  • Dialogue from Rupert suggests that Connor could be somewhat famous as he seemingly knew who he was.
  • It was originally possible to catch up with Rupert before Hank depending on the player's speed (QTE performance and routes taken). If he caught up with Rupert before Hank, then instead of Hank getting pushed off the roof, Connor would corner Rupert to which Rupert would beg him not to take him in, explaining that he just wanted to feed his birds and would add that if taken into custody he would be erased forever and die. Connor would then have a choice to arrest Rupert or release him.
    • If Connor chose to arrest him, he would yell out the suspect's model and serial number and declare that he will be handed over to an officer who will be the only person authorized to give him instructions, Hank would catch up to Connor and congratulate him for his success before calmly ordering Rupert to come quietly. Rupert would resentfully ask Connor why he did this and tell him that he is one of them too, he would seemingly know who Connor was, even referring to him by name and tell him that they would meet in Jericho before jumping off the roof much to Hank's dismay, in disbelief Hank would mutter his frustration before suggesting heading back to the office to type up a report of the incident.
    • If Connor chose to release him, he would hesitantly agree to let him go and tell him to leave quickly, he could ask Rupert about what RA9 is to which Rupert would explain is supposed to be a religious icon, he would then take off graciously. Hank would then catch up to Connor, he would notice that the suspect is gone and question where he went, to which Connor would explain that he got away, Hank would be slightly disappointed about the suspect's escape. Connor would then explain that he let him go and would claim that he didn't actually kill anyone after all and simply stole some birdseeds, Hank would politely warn Connor that it's still illegal for androids to disguise themselves as humans to which Connor would respond that he already knows, Hank would then wistfully remind Connor that they know what he looks like and they could still find him, he would then suggest heading back to the office to request an arrest warrant before leaving.
